Senior Geospatial Data Scientist/Engineer (#1384)

We are looking for a Geospatial Data Scientist/Engineer with expertise in handling geospatial datasets. The ideal candidate will apply their technical knowledge and software skills to develop and oversee geospatial datasets for the client R&D team. Additionally, they will play a crucial role in supporting company-wide data management activities.

Our client is based in the UK and is a leading provider of ground-breaking software tools and data for farmers in the UK, Africa, and Europe. As part of a larger agri-services business with £1bn+ revenue, they combine technology from satellite operators, weather data providers, and the world’s leading agricultural research teams to deliver decision support to help the world grow more food. The project includes working with satellite imagery, maps, and precise agriculture algorithms.

Technical Stack: Python, GIS (ArcGIS, QGIS, GeoServer, PostGIS), GeoJSON, Apache Parquet, AWS (Lambdas, S3, etc.), REST API, GeoServer, PostgreSQL, H3.

Responsibilities:

• GIS Software Expertise: Utilise GIS software such as ArcGIS, QGIS, GeoServer, and PostGIS, and proficient in programming languages like R and Python for spatial data analysis and visualization.
• Spatial Data Management: Manage and maintain spatial databases, ensuring the integrity and accuracy of spatial data. Implement data management best practices and contribute to the development of efficient workflows. 
• Quality Control: Conduct quality control assessments on spatial datasets to ensure accuracy, completeness, and adherence to established standards. Develop and implement quality control procedures and documentation. Collaborate with stakeholders to address and rectify data quality issues.
• Data Schemas: Contribute to the design of, implement, and manage data schemas for spatial databases to support various projects and applications. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment with project requirements.
• Documentation and Reporting: Create and maintain documentation related to GIS workflows, data structures, and quality control procedures. Generate reports summarising findings and recommendations for improvement.

Requirements:

• Proficiency in utilizing GIS software such as ArcGIS, QGIS, GeoServer, and PostGIS for spatial data analysis and visualization.
• Proficient in programming languages like R and Python for spatial data analysis, manipulation, and visualization.
• Experience in managing and maintaining spatial databases, ensuring data integrity, accuracy, and security. Ability to implement data management best practices and develop efficient workflows.
• Strong understanding of quality control principles and experience in assessing spatial datasets. Ability to develop and implement quality control procedures and collaborate with stakeholders to address data quality issues.
• Experience in contributing to designing, implementing, and managing data schemas for spatial databases. 
• Excellent documentation skills with the ability to create and maintain documentation related to GIS workflows, data structures, and quality control procedures. Experience in generating reports summarizing findings and recommendations for improvement.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze complex spatial data and derive meaningful insights.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Geography, GIS, Environmental Science, Computer Science, or a related field.
• 3+ years of experience in a similar role, with a proven track record of successfully managing spatial data and contributing to GIS projects.
• Any relevant certifications in GIS software, spatial data management, or data analysis would be a plus.
