N-iX is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Oracle Database Administrator (DBA) to join our team. The successful candidate will have in-depth knowledge of Oracle database systems with a focus on executing database patching tasks to ensure the security, stability, and performance of our live production environments. This role is critical in maintaining the integrity of our database systems through meticulous patch management and effective collaboration with other IT professionals.


Responsibilities:

  • Plan and coordinate all phases of Oracle database patching, including scheduling, testing, and execution in live production systems.
  • Perform thorough evaluation and analysis of Oracle patch releases to understand their impact on current database environments.
  • Develop and refine patching strategies and standard operating procedures, aiming for minimal downtime and adherence to service-level agreements (SLAs).
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including system administrators and application developers, to ensure effective communication and coordination of maintenance windows for patching.
  • Proactively monitor the patching process, identifying and swiftly resolving any issues, while ensuring database availability and performance criteria are not compromised.
  • Maintain documentation of patching activities, including strategies, schedules, and post-implementation reviews, to ensure accurate records are kept for compliance and auditing purposes.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. Equivalent experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • 4+ years of experience as an Oracle DBA, with a strong background in database patch management for live systems.
  • Proven expertise in Oracle database administration, including performance tuning, backup and recovery, and troubleshooting.
  • Certification as an Oracle Database Administrator is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with Oracle's standard patching tools and methods, such as OPatch, Database Upgrade Assistant (DBUA), and Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM).
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to handle unexpected issues during patch application.
  • Strong organisational skills, able to work efficiently in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
  • Exceptional communication and coordination abilities, with a track record of working collaboratively with IT teams and stakeholders.
  • Availability to work outside of standard business hours as needed during scheduled maintenance windows.
