Tech Talks: The Core of Knowledge Sharing
One of the most popular formats in the community is our Tech Talks — the core engine for knowledge-sharing. The process is simple and effective: we invite an engineer we trust and who is genuinely excited to speak, choose a topic together, polish the story and slides, and then the speaker shares their experience in a focused 50–60 minute session. These talks sometimes attract a wider N-iX audience beyond the Data Community, helping spread data thinking across the company and creating even more connections between teams.
For Mariana Haiovska, now a Junior Data Engineer who joined N-iX as a Trainee, this openness is one of the biggest reasons the community feels like the right environment:

Bigger Events: ML Month and What’s Next
Alongside Tech Talks, we also run larger themed initiatives 1–2 times per year — immersive programs that last a week or even a full month. In 2025, we hosted ML Month, which included four Tech Talks, a panel discussion, and weekly quizzes with small prizes to keep the energy high. Data Games: Compete, Learn, Connect
Our signature event and the community’s calling card is Data Games, a large annual competition we’ve been running for three years in a row. Each year has its own theme: Game of Thrones, then an Olympic year edition, and most recently, Formula 1.
Data Games is designed as a multi-round challenge for data gurus with tasks that test different aspects of data engineering — and beyond. Participants compete in experience-based tracks, so Juniors and Seniors have fair conditions, and it still creates great stories when someone early in their career earns a standout score. There are also quizzes, activities, gifts, and a role for spectators who join for the learning and the excitement.
The idea was born three years ago. I felt that our community of engineers was missing a sense of thrill — that competitive spark and excitement that pushes you to go beyond your comfort zone. So we decided to launch a challenge — a competition to bring that energy back.
We started small, gathering a few brave souls who were not afraid to take on the challenge. It turned out we loved the format. Since then, we’ve seen how powerful and flexible it is. How long will Data Games continue? As long as demand and curious minds are willing to step up, we’ll keep going. Community Beyond Tech
We also keep space for lighter, relationship-building formats that strengthen the community culture: Coffee Breaks (online/offline conversations over coffee) and our Data Community Birthday, celebrated every April with an offline meetup and sweet treats.
These moments create a direct feedback loop — people share what they want to learn next, what formats feel most useful, and which topics deserve deeper dives.

These informal moments matter just as much as deep technical dives, because strong communities are built not only through knowledge sharing but also through shared moments. Gamification: Turning Engagement Into a Culture
Starting in 2025, we also introduced gamification across the whole year: participation, feedback, helping with organization, conducting at Tech Talks, and other contributions earn points that add up — and the most active community members receive prizes during year-end wrap-ups. It’s a simple system that turns engagement into a visible culture of contribution.
Growth Stories: From Trainee to Junior
What makes this community special is how it supports growth from day one. Mariana Haiovska, Junior Data Engineer, joined after hearing strong feedback from people she knew inside N-iX:
